Modal verbs (Will/Would)

Утверждение

Модальный глагол will используется для выражения твердой решимости, желания, намерения и переводится "хотеть, непременно".

Would используется в конструкциях would ('d) rather - пожалуй, предпочтительнее, would ('d) better - лучше, would ('d) sooner - скорее.

Чтобы составить утвердительное предложение с will или would, необходимо:

1.Поставить на первое место I/we/you/they/he/she/it или существительное в единственном или множественном числе;
2. will или would;
3. Глагол;
4. Остальные слова.

Отрицание

Отрицательные предложения образуются с помощью will not или would not. Они сокращаются до won't или wouldn't. Давайте рассмотрим их употребление.


1. На первое место поставить местоимение или существительное;
2. will not, would not или сокращенную форму won't/wouldn’t;
3. Глагол;
4. Остальные слова.

В отрицательной форме употребляется will в настоящем времени, а would в прошедшем для выражения:
1. Упорного нежелания или отказа выполнять какое-либо действие:
I won’t do it again. - Я ни за что не буду делать это снова.

2. Глагол would используется как в настоящем, так и в прошедшем времени в значении "никак, ни за что не (хочу/хотел)"
I wouldn’t lend him money to buy a car. - Я не хочу одалживать ему деньги на покупку машины.

3. Глагол will (в настоящем) would (в прошедшем) выражает противодействие, сопротивление, отказ функционировать должным образом. Соответствует русскому "никак не".
The engine wouldn’t start. - Мотор никак не заводился.

Чтобы составить вопрос с will или would, необходимо:

1. На первое место поставить will или would (если вопрос начинается с Where/When и т.д., то will или would ставим после них);
2. Местоимение или существительное;
3. Глагол;
4. Остальные слова.
