El pronombre it (esto, ello) se utiliza para
designar objetos inanimados, eventos, fenómenos y conceptos.
También it se utiliza para referirse a
animales.

El pronombre it también se puede utilizar en
referencia a personas, cuando el hablante intenta establecer
la identidad de otra persona.

El pronombre it se utiliza en preguntas tag,
cuando el sujeto está expresado por palabras como
nothing (nada), everything
(todo), this (esto), that
(eso).

El pronombre it se puede utilizar en
oraciones impersonales como sujeto formal. En tales oraciones
no hay un agente que realice la acción, y el sujeto o
complemento se expresa mediante un infinitivo o una cláusula
subordinada. Por ejemplo, esto ocurre en declaraciones sobre
el tiempo, el clima, la temperatura, la distancia, etc. En
este caso, it puede traducirse como «
es» o puede omitirse.
