Future Continuous Futuro continuo

Future Continuous (Future Progressive) se forma con el verbo auxiliar will (menos comúnmente shall para I y We) y la forma del infinitivo continuo (be + verbo con la terminación -ing).

Will se utiliza en el inglés moderno con todas las personas y números.
Shall se usa solo con la primera persona del singular y del plural (I, We), pero este uso se considera anticuado.

En el inglés moderno, se utiliza solo will con todos los números y personas, y esto no es un error. Pero shall todavía se puede encontrar en periódicos, textos antiguos o textos en entrevistas de trabajo, al ingresar a una institución educativa, y en la literatura artística.

• I shall be working here. – Yo estaré trabajando aquí.
• He will be drinking tea with us. – Él estará bebiendo té con nosotros.
• We will be dancing all night. – Nosotros estaremos bailando toda la noche.

• I’ll be sitting there. – Yo estaré sentado allí.

La negación en Future Continuous se forma añadiendo la partícula not después del verbo will o shall.

• I will not be working here. – No estaré trabajando aquí.
• He will not be drinking tea with us. – Él no estará bebiendo té con nosotros.
• We will not be dancing all night. – No estaremos bailando toda la noche.

• will not = won’t (contracción)
• I won’t be working here. – No estaré trabajando aquí.

• shall not = shan’t
• We shan’t be dancing all night. – No estaremos bailando toda la noche.

La formación de preguntas generales en Future Continuous se realiza colocando el verbo auxiliar will (o shall) al principio de la oración antes del sujeto.

• Will I be working here? – ¿Estaré trabajando aquí?
• Will he be drinking tea with us? – ¿Él estará bebiendo té con nosotros?
• Will we be dancing all night? – ¿Estaremos bailando toda la noche?

La pregunta especial en Future Continuous se forma utilizando una palabra o frase interrogativa que se coloca al principio de la oración. El orden de las palabras es el mismo que en la pregunta general para Future Continuous.

• What will I be doing here? – ¿Qué estaré haciendo aquí?
• Whom will he be drinking tea with? – ¿Con quién estará bebiendo té?
• How long will we be dancing? – ¿Cuánto tiempo estaremos bailando?

Future Continuous se utiliza para describir acciones que estarán ocurriendo en un momento específico y conocido o durante un cierto período de tiempo en el futuro.

• I will be waiting for you here at 9 a.m. tomorrow. – Estaré esperándote aquí mañana a las nueve de la mañana.
• Tom will be playing football all day next Sunday. – Tom estará jugando al fútbol todo el próximo domingo.
• This time next week I will be flying to Berlin. – A esta misma hora la próxima semana estaré volando a Berlín.

El momento exacto en Future Continuous puede especificarse mediante otra acción más breve, que se expresa en Present Simple.

• I will be cooking dinner when she leaves. – Yo estaré cocinando la cena cuando ella se vaya.
• He will be washing the car when the postman comes. – Él estará lavando el coche cuando llegue el cartero.
• They will be watching the game when the rain starts. – Ellos estarán viendo el juego cuando empiece a llover.

Future Continuous se utiliza para describir varias acciones en una oración que estarán ocurriendo simultáneamente en el futuro.

• I will be making cocktails and Ann will be meeting guests. – Yo estaré haciendo cócteles y Ana estará recibiendo a los invitados.
• Jane will be listening to music, Jake will be reading a book. – Jane estará escuchando música y Jake estará leyendo un libro.
• They will be sitting, watching movie and eating a pie. – Ellos estarán sentados, viendo una película y comiendo un pastel.

Future Continuous se utiliza para describir un evento que inevitablemente ocurrirá en el futuro cercano debido a un acuerdo previo o a la inevitabilidad.

• I saw the news. It will be raining tomorrow. – Vi las noticias: mañana lloverá.
• We have made a deal. I shall be working instead of her next month. – Hemos hecho un trato. Estaré trabajando en su lugar el próximo mes.
• We have made an arrangement. I will be meeting her soon. – Hemos hecho un arreglo. La encontraré pronto.

Future Continuous puede usarse para hablar de acciones planificadas que ocurrirán en un futuro cercano, sin embargo, en la actualidad se usa más el Present Continuous

• She will be meeting Jake’s parents this evening. – Ella se reunirá con los padres de Jake esta noche.
• She is meeting Jake’s parents this evening. – Ella se reunirá con los padres de Jake esta noche.

• Lara will be flying to New York next morning. – Lara estará volando a Nueva York mañana por la mañana.
• Lara is flying to New York next morning. – Lara está volando a Nueva York mañana por la mañana.

• I will be visiting the party tonight. – Visitaré la fiesta esta noche.
• I am visiting the party tonight. – Visitaré la fiesta esta noche.

Future Continuous puede usarse para hacer una pregunta cortés sobre planes o acciones en un futuro cercano.

• Will you be using this book for long? – ¿Vas a estar usando este libro por mucho tiempo?
• Will your sister be visiting you? – ¿Tu hermana te estará visitando?
• Will she be staying here for long? – ¿Ella se estará quedando aquí por mucho tiempo?

Future Continuous se utiliza cuando a la pregunta «¿cuándo sucederá esto?» se puede indicar una hora exacta o un intervalo de tiempo específico en el futuro.

• at 5 o'clock – a las 5 en punto
• at that moment – en ese momento
• this time tomorrow – a esta hora mañana
• the same time next week – a la misma hora la próxima semana

• meanwhile – mientras tanto, entre tanto
